It's a Tori Story

This is a book that the school I'm student teaching at has as required text from the people who make the schools lesson plans. I read this to my kids a couple of weeks ago and boy did this book confuse my students as well as me. But it did hit home the fact that we were going to be wondering about and questioning the book. 

I would use this to counter the Grimm Brothers versions of fairytales. So that the children could see different versions. And we could compare and contrast the stories. 

I think that you could read this book with your 6th graders. Especially, during whole group. It will keep both the girls and boys entertained. It would be a good way to introduce the students to different types of fiction. In this case Dystopian. 

The Percy Jackson series is a really great series that has had spin offs. It is a great series for advanced readers in the 4th or fifth grade. But also a great series for middle schoolers to read. I think that both boys and girls will enjoy this series. You could probably use this series in the classroom as whole group reading in the 4th or 5th grade. It also teaches the students about Greek Mythology. 

I've read these books with one of the boys I babysit. There I think five in the series. I think that they are really good books for boys from 2nd grade up until 6th or 7th grades. I think that these books are a really cool way to present history to kids. 

The Polar Express, is another one of the classics I want to have in my classroom. I would read it around Christmas Time during whole group reading. Or just to have in my library for my students to read. 

I think that this is one of those classics that every child needs to read at some point. I think that besides having this just in the classroom. I think that I could use this on Dr. Seuss's birthday, along with his other books. 

This is a really cute book that my CT has read to her class. The book takes place in a fairytale land. Where Irene's mother is a dress maker, who is to sick to get the dress for the Duchess to her during the snow storm. So Irene being the brave little girl that she is takes the dress to the duchess. It is a cute book that we used to wonder and question. This is a really good book to instill the basic thinking that a person needs to do while reading a book. We also used it to infer about certain characters. 

One of those classic books that I believe every child should read. I think that this would be a good book to read as small groups in 3rd or 4th grade. Or even used as a whole group reading in 5th or 6th grade. 

This story continues the story of Grace, from Amazing Grace. This one tells the story of her and her journey to see her father. As well as, her coming to terms that she doesn't have the same type of family as everyone else. We used this in my CT's class to infer about how Grace was feeling throughout the book. I think we could also use this to explain to the children that not everyone has the "normal" family as Grace has put it. But that doesn't mean that their family is less than others. 

This book has been read to my 3rd graders. I think it's a good book to tell the kids that they can be anything no matter what others say about them. Skin Tone, Religion, or Gender can come between you and your dreams. Only you can. Also this book can be used to talk about what happens when someone is bullied about something. 

Tuck Everlasting is a really beautiful fantasy book, taking place in the late 1800's. I think it is a really good book to read with 4th graders. It is not a long read. You could use it as whole group reading in my opinion. 

This is one of my favorite books. Ever since I was little I have loved this book. I think it is a really good book to read to your children and at home from a very early age. I also think that it is a good book to give to young readers. It could be used to teach children not to judge people by the way that they look. 

A cute book with some really funny illustrations. It describes the Presidents up until George W. Bush. It shows the Presidents in a humorous way. I think that this book could be used to teach students about our past Presidents. And can be used during the elections. I think any age could read this book.

This is a book that I read to teach my third graders about pronouns. I think any age group could use this when learning about pronouns. It is a quick and easy read, that is really fun. 

I plan on decorating my room as a Peter Pan theme. So I think this would be a good story to read on the first day of school or even the first week of school.
