Grimm Brother's Fairytales
Grimm's Fairy Stories: A Sweet Collection of Their Best Including Numerous Original Illustrations (b&w) - Jacob Grimm, Wihelm Grimm

I absolutely love the Grimm fairytales. I think that you could do a lot with this in the 5th-6th grade. Like comparing the Grimm fairytales to other versions of the stories.

A Series of Unfortunate Events
A Series of Unfortunate Events Box: The Complete Wreck - Brett Helquist, Lemony Snicket

I personally adore this series. I started reading this series in the second grade and I really think that is a good age range to start reading this series with. Especially for those advanced readers who are moving onto chapter books. The narrator/author exposes the reader to challenging vocabulary. These words are always explained to the reader.

Duck for President
Duck for President - Doreen Cronin, Betsy Lewin

This is a really cute book for any age to read during election season. I think this could be used to hold a class election, even if it is using cartoon characters. I think it could be really fun to use if you are teaching the students about the election process, so then by using different text students can make text to self/community connections.
